It’s your friendly neighbourhood gaming-giraffe here, and I wanted to address something which we as a mod team have noticed is becoming more divisive.

Artificial Intelligence.

It’s a topic which provokes strong opinions, and it’s one which some of our members are understandably sensitive about.

At The Gamers’ Tavern, our mission is to create a cozy and safe home where people can find community through gaming, away from some of the pressures and noise outside the tavern walls. To that end we are updating our rules to help ensure that members have control over the discussion topics they see which relate to AI, whilst still supporting open conversation.

Going forward we would ask everyone to consider AI to be a sensitive topic, on a par with the others previously mentioned in the rules (politics, religion, etc), and apply good judgement and common sense in how it is handled.

• Make appropriate use of Content Warnings (CWs) and use the tag ‘AI’ when posting on Mastodon and Discourse;
• Any AI related content should be tagged on Peertube/Pixelfed, and any AI generated content should continue to be labelled as such

This allows members to choose to avoid specific AI related content, mute all posts related to AI, or engage with the topic on their own terms.

Given that this is an addendun to the rules we will foresee a time-cushion of about a month between the rule being published and the rule being enforced by the staff.

Respect towards others

It's fun to make fun of yourself when it's a game for both sides. Do not exaggerate or touch on sensitive topics that can easily offend the other person (religious, sexual orientation, etc.).

Toxic behaviors

It makes no sense to be in The Gamer's Tavern with the sole purpose of insulting others and being toxic.

Aggressive behaviors

We want our community to be a welcoming and respectful space for everyone. To ensure that we ask you to express your opinions repectfully by:

• avoiding instigating violence against individuals, groups, etc.;
• avoiding personal attacks, insults, or needlessly aggressive tones.

Use proper tagging for sensitive topics as some topics can be difficult or triggering for others. Tags subjects like:

Beware of sensitive topics

Use Content Warnings (CW) for sensitive topics as some topics can be difficult or triggering for others. Use a CW for subjects like:

• tragedies;

When in doubt, adding a CW is a good way to show respect for others.

Post your original contents

Creators should only upload their own content. It's fine if you upload an image, photo or video containing fragments of other people's content but the overall content must be yours truly.

If your content includes AI-generated elements (e.g., music, video, voiceovers, etc.), this must be clearly noted in the video description. This ensures viewers are aware of the tools shaping their experience, allowing for informed engagement. This policy is subject to change as technology and community needs evolve.

We don’t mind helping other people grow their communities/channels – but please use the dedicated channels for any promotional activities.

To use those, please don’t just join and then immediately start spamming us with links for other servers/twitch channels etc., be an active part of our community first.

We ask you to avoid directly contacting other Tavern users unsolicited and sending said links.

Zero tolerance policy

never mind if it's on Mastodon, Pixelfed, Discourse, etc., we have a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY regarding contents:

• antilgbt;
• antidisability;
• antifeminism;
• racial slurs;
• white suprematism;
• far right/left wing sympathizing;
• trolling;
• spamming;
• crypto scams;
• paedophilia

or anything nearby.
